Shipping costs depend on location and how it needs to be shipped. You can also get it costume built if you want more height, length or width. I'm getting a 8x3x3 enclosure with a substrate lip of 12" for my tegu soon, the substrate lip is basically free from what they have told me.
However with a beardie that should be on a substrate of tile, paper towels, non adhesive shelf liner or reptile carpet it doesn't really need to be high like that of a active large burrowing species. In this post, we will discuss the main features that a durable, comfortable and affordable gallon terrarium should have. Almost all gallon enclosures are intended to house small reptiles, but terrarium volume is only one of several aspects to consider.
In this article, we will review the specifics of the most popular gallon terrariums on the market today. Amazon, Petco as well as Walmart, have excellent offers, as far as reptile supplements are concerned. In the case of terrariums, it is no different.
If you want to check it just one click. One of the fundamental aspects when choosing our terrarium is the space required by the reptile to develop and thrive. To make a correct selection, we must take into account the size of the adult reptile, the characteristics of its natural habitat and the habits and behavior of the species. This small reptile comes from desert areas, having nocturnal habits and their own characteristics.
Its small size allows it to be confined in low volume tanks. The minimum required space is 10 gallons for a juvenile or even an adult, reaching up to 20 gallons for a couple of adults.
An excellent example of this is the 20 gallon Exo Terra Terrarium, whose dimensions are 24 x 18 x 12 inches which provide a great habitat for the leopard gecko.
The Best Size Tank For A Happy Bearded Dragon (Baby – Adult)
In the case of small animals from the rainforest which most have arboreal habits, would require more height and a smaller base area, this terrarium should be able to contain the necessary ornamental elements to provide protection in addition and look naturalistic. To evaluate the quality of a terrarium, several factors need to be measured. The first on the list would be the quality of the materials used.
A second factor would be the usability and practicality of the design. Thirdly we evaluate its appearance and finally durability and safety. The group of materials used in the construction of terrariums ranges from plastic, wood, to aluminum and high-quality glass. Each of them comes with pros and cons. In the case of very cheap plastic terrariums, this is to the detriment of their strength and safety.
These low-cost terrariums are generally used for quarantine or short term periods. Another disadvantage is the impossibility of placing under the tank heaters for obvious reasons. Most of the well-known brand name commercial terrariums such as Zoo Med, Exoterra and Carolina custom boxes use steel, aluminum, high-density plastic and a glass of the highest quality to make their terrariums.
There are some details to take into account such as access either by the top front doors.Raising a pet reptile is an exciting task. One of the most critical parts for the reptile owner is to keep the terrarium temperature at an optimum range.
Therefore, you must choose the right size and power when you are looking for a heating source for your terrarium setup. The first step for you is finding the heat source depending on what reptile you have decided to host. Stay with us, because in this post we are about to cover the best tanks heaters available today. The under-tank heater thermostat is the perfect solution to provide a constant temperature for any type of under-tank heater, regardless of its size or power. To make this task much easier, we recommend the use of the latest generation of digital thermostats.
These are easy to plug in and operate with LED indicator lights. Most of them can withstand heavy-duty use and are compatible with U. The producers of Under tank heating pads are aware of the need to control the temperature inside the terrarium and often include the thermostat and the heater under the tank in a combo form. This is very common in the Aiicioo and iPower, although there are many who market them separately.
This is one of the best digital thermostats that you can connect to a UTH. If you want to know more about it just click on it. Leopard geckos require little space. An adult can live comfortably in a gallon terrarium, but a gallon tank would be nice for extra comfort. It should be noted that since their habits are nocturnal and most of their activity is at ground level, the heat source should be located under the tank.
Each heater is designed with dimensions and power capable of heating most commercial terrariums. I would particularly recommend the iPower brand but Zoo Med also produces excellent reptile heating mats. Terrarium heaters perform a vital function in the reptile ecosystem. They are responsible for facilitating the thermoregulation of reptiles. They guarantee their habitat temperature. The temperature of the terrarium affects the behavior of the pet, feeding, and even its reproductive cycle.BEARDED DRAGON ENCLOSURE UPGRADE - Zen Habitats 4x2x2
Hence the importance of choosing the heater that meets this important function. The Zoo Med Laboratories have been at the forefront of reptile breeding for 40 years.Users browsing this forum: Google Adsense [Bot]. Discussion Forums Forum Index. What people are saying Bearded Dragon Chatter. Bearded dragons tweets loading Last week she replaced both after six months of use. Yesterday she purchased a gallon tank - four feet long, two feet wide and two feet high. It was installed with a regular fluorescent light ballast no hood and two regular light sockets. The previous owner used a regular fluorescent bulb, one watt Zoo Med Basking Spot Lamp and one ceramic heat lamp. However the lights aren't working. Now I enter the picture needing to understand what I need to buy in order to fix it and other bearded dragon concepts.
Is it necessary to have a reflector dome? What about the other end of the tank? I was thinking of getting a reptile carpet to go on top of it like in the current terrarium. Thank you for your help and patience with me, trevor.
Non adhesive shelf liner can work, or just the tile. I don't like tile myself, it's not natural although many people claim it to be but it's like them living on a cement floorwould be hard on the joints over time. Calcium X a week, vit. The aquarium dimensions of one brand of tank may be slightly larger or smaller than the aquarium dimensions for the same gallon tank of a different brand.
Similarly, the aquarium dimensions of a tank with one color trim may be a slightly different aquarium size compared to the same gallon tank with a different color trim. This slight difference in aquarium dimensions may not be a significant concern in most cases.
Ask the clerk at the local fish store to measure the aquarium dimensions, and then measure the corresponding hood out of the box to see if it actually fits the tank being purchased. Go through the same procedure for the aquarium stand or cabinet as well. Sometimes items are returned by customers, put into the wrong box and then resold.
One may think they are getting an item according to the size written on the box only to find out that what they ended up with is it not what they expected. So measure and check before leaving the store It just saves the time and trouble of not getting it right and having to return the items later. Aquarium dimensions for a 10 gallon aquariumand lower, are considered small tanks and have a limited bio-load capacity and a very thin margin for error.
Along these lines, as aquarium dimensions increase so does bio-load capacity as well as the need for greater filtration capacity. Either way, its important for hobbyists to proceed slowly and methodically. In addition, there are types of specialty tanks with different aquarium dimensions.
Bow front tanks, tanks with round shapes, and hexagon shaped tanks to name a few. When considering purchasing a specialty tank, be mindful that these types of tanks have non-rectangular aquarium dimensions so measure and plan accordingly.
Other types of fish tanks used for breeding purposes. The aquarium dimensions of breeder tanks vary based on the gallon size and water volume, but they generally are deeper in terms of width.
Just be aware that when one speaks of a 40 gallon tank for example, it may be 40 gallon long tank a 40 gallon breeder tank, each with different aquarium dimensions. While that includes the number of gallons and water volume, it also includes size and area considerations including:. The actual aquarium dimensions; Room for the aquarium stand or cabinet; Space between the back of the aquarium and the wall; and The amount of free area around the front, sides and above the tank.
Many years ago a friend had an aquarium size that was too large for the room it was in. On top of that, children would play in the area in front of the tank, and the area around the tank was really a high traffic pathway in the room. One day, someone was vacuuming the rug in front of the aquarium and the vacuum handle went right through the glass.
Fortunately they were able to save the fish, but the whole scene was quite a mess. Along those lines, pay particular attention to any shelving or hanging items in the space above the tank. Another consideration is to make sure the aquarium size allows for enough room between the back of the tank and the wall.
To proceed, please verify that you are not a robot.
Make sure to provide space for accessories such as a power filter or canister filter, air hoses and water hoses, a digital timer and electrical plugs…not to mention the aquarium stand or cabinet itself. And be sure to account for the space needed to reach around the back of the setup to clean and maintain the tank.
Other things to think about when considering aquarium size is what species will be kept in the tank. For example, aquarium crayfish can be very territorial and aggressive and should be kept in larger size tanks with big footprints. Oscar Cichlids grow to be very large and should be kept in larger tanks as well. A tool for calculating aquarium water volume can be found here.
As discussed in Reptile Housing: Size, Dimension and Lifestylethere is a rule of thumb to determining what size enclosure your reptile will need. The thing that most herp keepers don't keep in mind is that size will vary throughout the early years of its life as the reptile grows. So, the enclosure size suitable for a one year old iguana, boa constrictor or savanna monitor may not be the size suitable for that same reptile two, three or five years later.
Since reptile species attain their full adult size at different ages, you need to be aware of the expected growth rate of your species. Again, pet stores and people who have listened to pet stores as to how to care for and feed their reptiles are not a good source of information as pet stores understate adult size and their care recommendations lead to stunted, undersized animals.
After you do the calculation to figure out what size tank you will need, you can compare it to the standard enclosures typically sold for reptiles. Other stock tanks made by other companies are available in the same or similar capacity as these Rubbermaid tanks. Rubbermaid model numbersand have a drain plug.
Other Commercial Enclosures. Product Name Manufacturer. Dimensions LxDxH in. Vision Reptile Enclosures. Model The gallon size indicated on the Big Apple website is Imperial gallons Don't ask me which of the above I think are good for an iguana.
I do not think any of them are by virtue of how fast iguanas grow. As for the enclosures made primarily of mesh, bars, or screening materials, it is difficult to impossible to keep an iguana heated properly in an enclosure made out of such materials.
To calculate the capacity of any enclosure, simply multiply the height x width x depth, in inches. This gives you the total cubic inches cu. Divide this by the following factor to get gallons:.

Young adults and adults should have at minimum a tank of 55 gallons 48 inches long X 13 inches wide X 20 inches deepbut ideally 75 gallons 48 inches long X 18 inches wide X 20 inches deep. Large dragons over 20 inches will do best in tanks at 75 gallons, but should really be given a tank of gallons 48 inches long X 24 inches wide X 24 inches deepas this will really allow for them to roam around and get their exercise. For exceptionally large dragons, it is really doing them a disservice to be in anything less than gallons, unless you plan on giving them hours of supervised play time outside of their tank every single day!
If you have a baby bearded dragon, under 10 inches or so, then a 20 gallon tank is fine to house them in temporarily. Remember, all baby creatures need time to become stealthy hunters and as such, your baby bearded may struggle to catch his food should you give it plenty of room to run away. If you house a baby in a tank of this size or larger, keep a close eye on them and observe how adeptly they are able to actually catch and eat their live food, primarily crickets.

Although housing two bearded dragons is very risky dragons can often be territorial and fightif you absolutely must go this route then you should really combine two 75 gallon tanks or have something of similar size at a minimum built.
However, I will never advise you to house two dragons together UNLESS they were hatchlings together and have never been separated and get along swimmingly.
But still, I highly recommend keeping a close eye and having an additional cage ready in case you need to rescue one. This can lead to fights, injuries, food hogging, and even one dragon laying claim to the basking spot and refusing to share! If you need help selecting a vendor, I use and highly recommend Carolina Custom Cages to house your beardie. They offer a wide variety of sizes and good deals on terrariums.

I can guarantee if you keep them all together, even regardless of their genders, there will be fights, food and basking light hogging, injuries, and potentially even death. Beardies are VERY territorial. Even housing babies and juveniles together is a bad idea. Please do not house them together. As far as discerning their gender, check out this article on how to sex your bearded dragon.

If feeders are evading them, then go ahead and use the cardboard.
